We are so honored to have the enthusiastic support of Café Tabac alum Patricia Velasquez—humanitarian, actress, author and supermodel—who will be joining us for the second year in a row as host committee to our #Back2Tabac NYC GAY PRIDE fundraiser event on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22nd, 2016 at the JANE HOTEL! Like last year’s most-talked about event, thanks in part to her efforts, we expect this year to be another sold-out smash hit! The fundraiser is to benefit the documentary feature film “Sundays at Café Tabac” where Patricia also shared with us a moving account of why Café Tabac of the early ’90s was not only beautiful and unforgettable, but important to her as a young woman in molding self-confidence, self-esteem and the freedom to be who she is…

“Every time I would go to a gay bar, a women’s bar somewhere, I left feeling very lonely… empty. It felt desperate. And I’m sure that had something to do with where we were at the time, and still many places in the world where there are no rights; you have to still hide—so there is a sense of desperation and loneliness and emptiness when you go to these places. I never felt that with Café Tabac. It was a place of joy, of strength and celebration.”

As a role model, through mentorship, through her published memoir “Straight Walk,” and her starring role in the recent lesbian-centric film release “Liz in September” (shot in her native Venezuela), she gives courage, hope, strength and solidarity to our LGBTQ youth who are still struggling in the world. She also continues to run The Wayuu Taya Foundation which she created to help improve the lives of Latin-American indigenous communities while maintaining and respecting their traditions, culture and beliefs. She is tireless in her efforts to help people and create art. For this we celebrate Patricia and are proud to call her one of our own.

Patricia will be present to help us celebrate Pride this year and we want to celebrate it with YOU! Be in the room to celebrate what the “Sundays at Café Tabac” film project and this Pride event is all about…. bold, self-empowered, visionary, creative and thus, beautiful women. JOIN US!

Patricia invites you #Back2Tabac #HouseofEdwige and celebrate #NYCPRIDE2016 with her this year!

The event is on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22nd, 2016 at the JANE HOTEL
