If you missed our #Back2Tabac fundraiser event on June 24th, 2015 in support of our “Sundays at Café Tabac” documentary feature film; or you were there at what is being celebrated as THE event of the season—you can take a step into or revisit the party through the beautiful photographs that were taken that night by our brilliant photographers who lent their talents in support of our project: Suzanne Abramson, Erica Camille, Kate Milford and Jamila Raegan. What a spectacular and unforgettable night it was kicking off one of the most jubilant and historic Gay Pride weeks ever thanks to the Supreme Court’s ruling in support of Gay Marriage!

The film’s Director/Producer Karen B. Song (pictured left) and Producer and original Sunday night host of Café Tabac, Wanda Acosta (pictured right) thank everyone who supported this venture but most of all, everyone who showed up, because a party is nothing without the incredible people who fill the room. It was everything we remembered of the original Cafe Tabac (except the cigarettes and smoke of course)—a swirl of beautiful, stylish, confident women, bringing it! And of course the gorgeous men who support us and original Café Tabac co-host, DJ Sharee Nash gracing sweet music to our ears and dancing shoes. She tag-teamed with our beloved DJ Belinda Becker who together inspired everyone to their feet.

There was so much love in that room. How even to express it other than through the vision of hugs, kisses, laughter and smiles that fill each photo frame. You have never seen a group of people more happy to see each other than this. It was a moving reunion of friends, acquaintances and once-lovers who hadn’t seen each other in as much as 20 years, when our beloved city and social landscape was a very different place, where our women’s bars thrived downtown. We were also so happy to welcome the many new faces, embodying all the reasons why Café Tabac was so special—our diversity in age, race/ethnicity, nationalities, professions, gender and sexual orientation—but with one thing in common. A desire to experience a community of like-minded creative, intelligent and passionate individuals, in an elegant nightlife environment. To feel the electricity that was in the air, you had to be there.

This fundraising event marks the beginning of many more memorable celebrations and opportunities to bring this special community together and see it grow as we continue working towards our film’s completion and ultimately its successful worldwide release. Like us on Facebook, and Follow us on Twitter and Instagram to stay posted on the latest in the film’s progress and future events. This sold-out #Back2Tabac party was a huge success judging from the buzz it is still generating and the ecstatic feedback we are receiving from our guests; but we also reached important goals in raising much-needed funds for the film, and for growing our community and generating PR for the project. Your word-of-mouth and social network media “shares” have brought important allies to the project—of individuals, businesses and institutions which are centered around film/media, women and the LGBTQ community. Please continue to support our event sponsors so that they can continue to support projects like ours that serve women and the LGBTQ community.

With our utmost love and gratitude, we want to thank all our sponsors especially everyone at MAC Cosmetics, our host committee, our most talented and titillating stage performers: Master of Ceremony Sophia Urista and her Boudoir 308 Dancers, our DJ’s, photographers, our ridiculously talented videographers from Signified: Jessie Levandov and Anna Barsan, Julia Moburg and Kristina Feliciano for their graphic design and wordsmith brilliance on the film’s takeaway cards, the wonderful catering and waitstaff from Indochine; and a very special thank you to Lisa Brown Masters, Kelly Gunn, Tim Tareco, Mickalene Thomas, Racquel Chevremont, Meredith Nelson, Susan Buckley, Jean-Marc Houmard, Marcy Pianin, everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, cheered for us from near and afar, our early Kickstarter supporters who believed in this project from the start who helped us get to this point, Women Make Movies, and most of all to everyone who showed up and danced! Thank you all for your support and belief in this project, it means the world to us.

Please enjoy these photos from the #Back2Tabac event and share them widely. You can find the share buttons in the “Information” bar below each photo. Please be patient as it takes a minute to load when sharing. You will also find that they are available for purchase via digital download to the right of the photo; those funds would cover some of the administrative and service costs associated with making these photos available.
