SHAREE NASH Invites you to celebrate NYC Pride 2016 with us!
Throw your hands up if you remember swaying your hips to the music of DJ Sharee Nash at Café Tabac, Bar d’O, Starlight, and Wonderbar—who transformed those rooms into magical, groovy, sensuous, dreamtime ships that set sail under her guidance on the turntables! We have Sharee to thank for redefining an era, by infusing musical value and taste into women’s spaces. It wasn’t enough to have the minimum requirement of merely having a space to gather, but that it was mandatory to make aesthetic considerations, both visually and sonically. It was an expression of pride, celebration, self-worth and creativity. And as a DJ, her loyal fans stretched far beyond the lesbian demographic, to music heads of all persuasions.
In the tradition of those original Sunday nights at Café Tabac, we are so pleased to have its co-host and co-creator Sharee Nash, join this year’s Back to Tabac event HOST COMMITTEE for the second year in a row. She will be in the building and invites you to join her for Pride this year on WEDNESDAY JUNE 22nd, 2016 at the beautiful Jane Hotel!
She was also interviewed in our upcoming documentary where she discussed the vision she had for the original event which she co-created and co-hosted with our very own Wanda Acosta. Together they wanted to create a new kind of space for lesbians. They wanted a good looking room with good lighting, where they could have conversation with other women about literature, art and culture, backed by a killer soundtrack. Where women can get up and dance if the music moved them to (which it did). And in a nutshell, they wanted a space for lesbians where they could get a proper drink in proper stemware! Today, that desire hasn’t changed.
Thank you Sharee for the music and the vision. We can’t wait to celebrate Pride with you this year, in a beautiful room, with beautiful women, and proper stemware of course!
